LAS VEGAS, NV – In an unsettling case that has gripped the local community, four men have been arrested and charged with the brutal murder of a man near the railroad tracks off I-15. Despite the mounting evidence, one of the suspects, Antonio Tovar Jr., insists he is innocent.
The murder occurred on April 13, but it wasn’t until June 4 that Tovar was taken into custody. According to a criminal complaint, Tovar allegedly attacked the victim, known as Thaw, while he slept on a mattress, using a bat-like object to strike him repeatedly. Tovar, along with the other accused, were reportedly homeless, as was the victim.
Police discovered Thaw’s body at the scene and identified four men connected to the crime through surveillance footage. The video played a crucial role in the investigation, showing the suspects walking near the tracks shortly before the incident.
In an exclusive jailhouse interview, Tovar denied being present at the murder scene. “They have surveillance video of four of us walking towards the tracks, but I wasn’t there,” he claimed, maintaining his innocence.
The footage also implicated three others: G. Mark Winne, Christopher Henderson, and Martin Olsson. Authorities allege that all four men conspired to murder Thaw, striking him approximately 17 times with what they believe was a hatchet and then setting his body on fire.
The suspects face charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder. The case has raised concerns about violence among the homeless population and the challenges of policing such crimes.
As the investigation continues, the community remains on edge, grappling with the gruesome nature of the crime and the implications for public safety. Police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
The accused are currently detained at the Clark County Detention Center, awaiting trial. The case is expected to unfold further as it moves through the justice system, with all eyes on the courtroom proceedings.
