Mom killed by her 15-year-old son with shotgun

SAN ANTONIO, TX – A 16-year-old teen accused of fatally shooting his mother faced court for the first time on Thursday. The boy, who cannot be identified because of his age, was represented by his lawyers in the 436th Juvenile District Court presided over by Judge William Shaw.

The tragic incident played out at a residence near Delgado Street and North Hamilton Avenue on June 18 around 2:30 p.m. Police officers who were present at the scene of the crime discovered Luz Aurora Gonzalez, 37, critically injured in her front yard. The woman suffered from a gunshot wound to her head. Unfortunately, Gonzalez was declared dead at the scene.

Investigators believe the accused juvenile used a shotgun to take his mother’s life, after which he was taken into custody.

The suspect’s defense team revealed during the hearing that the teen has a history of hallucinations. However, no recent psychological assessments had been made since his last evaluation in 2016. Furthermore, he reportedly had not been given access to any prescribed medication.

Given the violent act attributed to the underaged teen, the court arrived at a consensus to increase supervision while he’s in custody, considering him a “danger to himself and others”.
