BOSTON, MA – In Boston’s Franklin Park, a shooting incident occurring near a Dominican festival spurred a city-wide search for the persons involved, leaving five people injured. The shootings occurred on Sunday evening. According to Boston Police, the victims included three men and two women who were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The police have currently withheld the details of the victims’ identities.
Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox, addressing reporters on Sunday night, underlined the urgent need to bring the culpable individual or individuals to book for their egregious act of firing into a crowd.
According to Commissioner Cox, as the festival was coming to an end, the police heard gunshots while directing pedestrians to leave the park.
By Monday, no updates were available on whether the shooting involved one or multiple shooters. Reflecting on the impact of the shooting on the community, Commissioner Cox expressed disappointment in how the violent incident marred an otherwise successful community festival. He appealed for community support and participation in helping apprehend the culprits.
Boston has gained recognition recently for its successful reduction of violent crime incidents. As per police statistics, 37 homicides were reported last year, with this year’s numbers demonstrating a marked reduction with only 10 incidents so far.
