Mansion in Newport Beach targeted for robbery. One intruder shot by the home owner

NEWPORT BEACH, CA – A local resident of an upscale Southern Californian neighborhood defended his home from a suspected intruder early Tuesday morning, according to police reports. The incident, which took place within a gated property in the coastal city of Newport Beach, resulted in the suspect being shot by the homeowner.

Authorities have stated that the incident seems to have been a targeted crime, hinting at a potential previous relationship between the suspects and the victims. Newport Beach police officers were dispatched to the scene around 4:45 a.m., following a 911 call from the homeowner who reported shooting an intruder.

Upon arrival, officers discovered one suspect, armed with a handgun, lying in the street suffering from gunshot wounds. The wounded suspect was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The extent of his injuries and current medical condition have not been made public.

In a surprising turn of events, a second suspect was discovered near the property, hidden in the foliage. This individual had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and was declared dead at the scene.

The four residents of the home, present during the invasion, escaped the ordeal unscathed. Newport Beach Mayor Will O’Neill issued a stern warning to potential criminals in a video statement, asserting the city’s commitment to self-defense.
