Deputy arrested for sexual assault while taking robbery report

CLAY COUNTY, FL – A Clay County Sheriff’s deputy has been arrested and charged with armed sexual battery, sparking outrage and disappointment within the community. The arrest of 33-year-old Ryan Perry was announced by Sheriff Michelle Cook, who expressed her anger and dismay over the incident.

The allegations stem from a June 18 incident when deputies responded to a theft report at a home in Orange Park. According to Sheriff Cook, Perry followed the victim upstairs while other deputies remained downstairs collecting information from witnesses. It was during this time that Perry allegedly demanded the victim expose herself and then inappropriately touched her, leading to the serious charge.

The sheriff’s office was informed of the incident last Saturday, prompting an immediate investigation that culminated in Perry’s arrest. Sheriff Cook did not hold back her emotions, stating, “We are here to protect and serve our community, not victimize them. It’s devastating that someone wearing a badge would betray that trust.”

Sheriff Cook revealed that Perry had two prior internal investigations during his tenure, one of which was sustained. Perry, who joined the department in 2018, was terminated following his arrest. The sheriff urged anyone with similar experiences involving Perry to come forward, emphasizing the importance of supporting victims who speak out.

The community has been left grappling with the betrayal of trust, as the sheriff’s office works to restore confidence in their ranks. Sheriff Cook praised the bravery of the victim for coming forward, a step that was crucial in bringing the allegations to light.

As the investigation continues, the sheriff’s office remains committed to transparency and accountability. The case highlights the ongoing challenges law enforcement agencies face in maintaining integrity and trust within the communities they serve.

The arrest has sparked discussions about the need for stringent oversight and the importance of rooting out misconduct within law enforcement ranks. Sheriff Cook’s decisive actions reflect a commitment to upholding the values of justice and accountability.

The Clay County community is now watching closely as the legal process unfolds, seeking assurance that justice will be served and that measures will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
