Man guilty of fatally stabbing ex-girlfriend 58 times while she was at a book club meeting

In a shocking verdict delivered after an eight-day trial, a Massachusetts man was found guilty of first-degree murder, for the savage stabbing of his ex-girlfriend at a local restaurant.

Carlos Asencio, 32, stabbed Amanda Dabrowski, 31, no fewer than 58 times while she was participating in a book club meeting, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. disclosed.

The fatal incident transpired on July 3, 2019. This stabbing resulted in Dabrowski’s untimely death, despite the heroic intervention of bystanders. This bravery earned Corson a Carnegie Hero Fund Commission honor for his actions.

The verdict mandates a life sentence for Asencio without the possibility of parole. Sentencing has been scheduled for June 29th.

While the verdict brings some measure of justice, Dabrowski’s family affirmed through a statement that no ruling can bring her back. The family expressed relief that Asencio would no longer pose a threat to others and thanked the jury for helping them find some semblance of justice.

Asencio’s defense, led by attorney Robert Griffin, unsuccessfully pled insanity, asserting Asencio was suffering from psychosis at the time of the incident.

The backstory behind this horrifying case involves Asencio blaming Dabrowski for his misfortunes, including job loss and homelessness, after their three-month relationship ended.

Earlier, Asencio had been suspected of attacking Dabrowski in her home with a stun gun, after which he fled to Canada and then Mexico. Following this incident, Dabrowski had sought a restraining order against him.

District Attorney Early praised the courage of the good Samaritans involved, acknowledging their heroic efforts to save Dabrowski in the horrific situation. As the legal proceedings conclude, the lingering effects of this tragedy continue to reverberate within the community.
