Little boy shot in the head while looking at Christmas lights

LAWTON, OK – In a devastating incident, an 8-year-old boy from Oklahoma is in critical condition after his family’s car was targeted in a shooting on Sunday. According to several reports, the boy, identified as Zachariah Bannister, was in the car with his family in Lawton, Oklahoma, when he was hit in the head by a bullet.

The boy’s grandmother explained that the mother had put the car in reverse to allow the boy and his brother to enjoy the Christmas lights. She then noticed a green laser and, shortly after, gunfire broke out.

The grandmother described the horrific scene to KSWO, saying, “His eyes were closed. He was leaned over to the right side. I [saw] blood and [Zack’s brother] said that Zack was bleeding and screamed, along with myself, ‘drive mom, drive.'”

In an aim to cover the costs of Zack’s recovery, the boy’s mother began a GoFundMe campaign. The campaign has, thus far, managed to raise more than $1,000.

Following the incident, Jullian Phillips was arrested. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, as noted by the spokesperson for the Lawton Police Department. Yet, there is no information on whether Phillips has issued a plea or if he has obtained legal representation.

According to the police spokesperson, as of Wednesday, Zack’s health condition had stabilized.
