Liquor store owner and wife shoot fake cop who tried to rob them

HOUSTON, TX – A tense encounter unfolded outside a Houston liquor store when Javier Reyes and his wife faced off against a man posing as law enforcement. The incident, which took place on June 15, involved a suspect dressed in tactical gear and a mask, claiming to be a police officer.

Reyes, who was taking out the trash, was confronted by a masked individual who arrived in a red car. The suspect, wearing a vest labeled “marshal,” demanded Reyes comply with orders, insisting he was a cop. However, the situation quickly escalated when the man revealed his true intentions.

Inside the store, Reyes’s wife witnessed the unfolding drama. As the suspect forced Reyes to the ground, declaring it a robbery, the couple sprang into action. They armed themselves and confronted the intruder, who fled, leaving behind his shoes and weapon.

Reyes fired multiple shots, one of which hit the suspect as he crawled to his getaway vehicle. Despite the harrowing ordeal, both Reyes and his wife emerged unharmed, though the gravity of the situation was not lost on them.

Authorities later found the suspect at a hospital, but no charges have been filed yet. Reyes believes there were accomplices, as another individual was seen driving the suspect’s vehicle.

The police have commended Reyes for his actions, but the investigation remains ongoing. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by individuals impersonating law enforcement.

Reyes reflected on the encounter, acknowledging the risk to his life when the suspect threatened him with a gun. Despite the frightening experience, the couple’s quick thinking and bravery turned the tables on the would-be robber.
