Labor Day Weekend shootings in Chicago leave 3 dead, 29 injured

CHICAGO, IL – Labor Day weekend in Chicago was marred by a series of shootings that resulted in three fatalities and 29 injuries, according to local law enforcement. Among the victims was a teenage boy who was critically wounded in a shooting incident on the city’s South Side on Sunday evening. The incident occurred in the Englewood neighborhood, where the teenager was shot in the head near a sidewalk. He was rushed to Comer Children’s Hospital in a critical condition. As of now, no suspects have been apprehended, and the investigation is ongoing.

Earlier in the day, a six-year-old boy was shot in the thigh inside a South Side home during a gathering. The incident took place in the Washington Heights neighborhood. The boy was transported to the same hospital in good condition. The police have yet to make any arrests in this case as well.

On Saturday evening, a shooting in the South Austin neighborhood left three men injured, one critically. The 47-year-old victim was shot multiple times and is currently in critical condition at a local hospital. The other two victims, both in their 20s, also sustained gunshot wounds but were reported to be in good condition. The police are still investigating this incident, and no arrests have been made.

In another incident on Saturday, a man was killed following a collision in the city’s West Side. The victim, a 30-year-old man, was shot by an unidentified male after hitting him with his vehicle in the Garfield Park neighborhood. The victim was pronounced dead at Mt. Sinai Hospital. The police are still investigating this incident, and no arrests have been made.

In the Englewood neighborhood, a 20-year-old man was found dead with a gunshot wound to the chest. The incident occurred just over an hour before the aforementioned shooting in the Garfield Park neighborhood. The victim was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

On Saturday morning, a 53-year-old woman was found dead in a home in the 4200-block of West Adams. The police have classified the case as a homicide and are currently questioning a person of interest. An autopsy was scheduled for Sunday.

On Friday night, a man, estimated to be between 19 and 24 years old, was fatally shot in the Armour Square neighborhood. The victim was outside when three male suspects approached and opened fire. The victim was pronounced dead at an undisclosed hospital.

Finally, two teenagers were shot near Mount Carmel High School shortly after a football game late Friday. The victims, a 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl, were taken to Comer Children’s Hospital. The boy is in critical condition, while the girl is in good condition. The police are reviewing surveillance video from the school grounds as part of their investigation.
