Man arrested for grand theft after stealing dozens of cases of wine

NORTH MIAMI, FL – A man with a penchant for purloining wine has been apprehended following a series of thefts from a local Publix supermarket. Authorities say the suspect, identified as Lenny Gonzalez, had been brazenly stealing cases of wine from the store, blending in with workers at the loading dock.

Surveillance footage reveals Gonzalez’s methodical approach, swiping dozens of wine bottles right under the noses of employees busy at work. The alleged thief managed to make off with 31 bottles of Merlot, nine bottles of Taylor red wine, and three bottles of Jack’s Peak wine, among others.

The thefts, which began in March, went unnoticed for some time, with Publix staff only realizing the extent of the loss when inventory discrepancies surfaced. Gonzalez reportedly struck multiple times, each time slipping away with hundreds of dollars’ worth of fine wine.

The suspect’s luck ran out during a recent attempted heist when North Miami police were waiting for him. Officers confronted Gonzalez at the rear loading dock, an area designated for employees only, effectively ending his spree of thefts.

Despite being caught in the act, Gonzalez feigned ignorance, acting as though he was unaware of the gravity of his actions. However, law enforcement officers, armed with clear video evidence, charged him with grand theft and dealing in stolen property.

Local authorities highlighted the importance of apprehending Gonzalez, noting his notoriety as a serial shoplifter in the area. They emphasized that his repeated offenses had become a significant concern for several local businesses.

The arrest marks a relief for the affected Publix, where employees had been increasingly troubled by the mysterious disappearance of wine stock. With Gonzalez in custody, police believe they have put an end to his wine-stealing escapades.

As the investigation continues, police urge local businesses to remain vigilant against similar crimes, stressing the value of surveillance systems in deterring would-be thieves.
