PORTLAND, OR – In a daring escape, two children, aged 9 and 11, managed to flee from a stolen vehicle and alert a passerby, leading to the apprehension of the alleged car thief, as reported by Portland police.
The dramatic incident unfolded when the father of the children left them in the idling car while making a quick stop at a local store. Seizing the moment, a woman, later identified as Iosha Dashae Millage, 33, jumped into the car and sped away, causing minor injuries to the father as he tried to intervene.
About ten minutes into the harrowing journey, the quick-thinking children jumped out of the car at a red light, catching the attention of a passerby. Despite the children’s exit, Millage continued her flight.
The passerby immediately dialed 911, staying with the children until the arrival of the police, who confirmed the children were unharmed before reuniting them with their father.
Meanwhile, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office had spotted the stolen car on Interstate 5 in North Portland. Ignoring the flashing lights and sirens, Millage led the law enforcement on a high-speed chase that crossed into Washington.
Numerous local law enforcement agencies joined the chase, finally cornering Millage near the Northeast 134th Street exit in Vancouver, Washington, less than 10 miles from the state border.
Millage has been charged with eluding, reckless driving, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and being a fugitive from justice. The last charge stems from an arrest warrant for second-degree kidnapping, first-degree robbery, and eluding related to the Portland incident. Millage is currently being extradited to Multnomah County, where she may face additional charges.
