ST. LOUIS, MO – A high school girl from Missouri is fighting for her life in a local hospital after a brutal altercation near her school, Hazelwood East High School. The teenage suspect, who allegedly caused her injuries, has been taken into custody.
The incident unfolded on Friday when St. Louis County Police Department officers were dispatched to a reported fight near the high school. Upon arrival, they discovered a young female with a severe head injury, presumably from being slammed onto the pavement.
The injured girl was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she remains in critical condition, according to updates provided by the St. Louis County police on Sunday.
The alleged assailant, a 15-year-old girl, was arrested the following day. She is now in the custody of the St. Louis County Family Court, facing assault charges.
The violent encounter took place near Norgate and Claudine drives, close to Hazelwood East High School. Video evidence from the scene depicts a group of youths in a heated brawl. One girl, identified as Black, can be seen pulling another girl, who appears to be White, to the ground and repeatedly hitting her before slamming her head into the pavement.
The Hazelwood School District has expressed its deep concern over the incident. In a statement, they acknowledged the tragedy of children being harmed and pledged to provide additional emotional support to those affected. They also emphasized the importance of community involvement in addressing issues of bullying and violence.
The investigation into the incident is still underway. St. Louis County Police Department has urged anyone with information to come forward.
