Grocery store employee shot dead at work by boyfriend

A shooting incident unfolded at a Mariano’s store in Illinois on Thursday, resulting in the death of one person. The authorities have described the incident as “domestic-related.” Police in Evergreen Park responded to an active shooter report at the store located at 2559 W. 95th St. around 9 a.m. Fortunately, no gunshots were being fired at the time of their arrival. The police evacuated individuals from the front of the building and proceeded inside to investigate further.

Evergreen Park Police Chief Michael D. Saunders stated that upon entering the store, officers discovered several people in the parking lot. They then proceeded to search the premises. Saunders revealed that they believed there was a shooter inside the building. However, no gunman was found. Tragically, they discovered an employee, believed to be a 21-year-old woman, in a storage area with multiple gunshot wounds. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. However, the identity of the victim has not yet been released pending family notification.

Surveillance videos revealed that the woman had been walking away from a man inside the store before heading into a back room, where the shooting occurred. Authorities received reports that the victim had been involved in a previous domestic dispute while working as an Amazon employee in nearby Oak Lawn. The suspect in that case was her boyfriend. In response, authorities issued an alert regarding the vehicle mentioned in the report. Chicago police later located the vehicle on the North Side of the city and apprehended a “possible suspect” who was armed with a firearm.

The village of Evergreen Park promptly issued an alert to residents, assuring them that the shooting was believed to be a “domestic situation” and that there was no threat to the public. However, the area remains an active crime scene, and the village urged everyone to avoid the vicinity. As authorities responded to the scene, multiple police cars were visible outside the storefront, and crowds of people gathered nearby.

The investigation into the shooting at the Mariano’s store in Evergreen Park is ongoing. The police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Evergreen Park Police Department.
