MUSTANG, OK – Authorities have released additional details after a first grader at Prairie View Elementary School brought a loaded firearm onto a school bus in Mustang, Oklahoma. The incident took place Monday morning. The child’s possession of the weapon was swiftly addressed by school officials.
The incident came to light when the young student reportedly flaunted the weapon to classmates while they were riding on the bus. Upon arrival at the school, educators intervened and secured the firearm without incident, ensuring the children’s safety.
Canadian County Sheriff’s Office records reveal the child claimed to have retrieved the gun from a box that was located in a closet at home.
Furthermore, reports indicate the child’s mother did not arrive at the school until three hours following the initial alert.
When the mother arrived, she referenced issues of bullying and expressed her son’s concern for a friend’s safety. She acknowledged owning the gun, which she purchased from a dealer at a state fair in 2023.
The case has been transferred to the District Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether legal action should be taken.
