Father killed confronting graffiti tagger after school drop-off

SHREWSBURY, MA – A serene morning at Jordan Pond turned tragic after a confrontation over graffiti spiraled into a fatal shooting. A father, who had just dropped off his six-year-old at a nearby elementary school, was walking back home across a bridge when he encountered a man with a spray can.

The father, 57, snapped a photo of the alleged vandalism, which led to a heated exchange. As the situation escalated, he called 911. During the call, gunshots rang out, abruptly ending the conversation and leaving the father fatally wounded.

The shooting triggered a massive manhunt. SWAT teams swarmed the neighborhood, advising residents to remain indoors. The tense atmosphere was palpable, with helicopters and drones scanning the area. “It was quite scary,” a resident recalled, noting the uncertainty of the suspect’s whereabouts.

Hours later, police focused their efforts on a nearby graffiti-covered home. A 26-year-old man, described by neighbors as a recluse, surrendered to authorities. Those who knew him mentioned his recent agitation and frequent use of spray paint to express himself, though they never anticipated violence.

The graffiti, featuring the name “Calvin Coolidge Crip” and initials “CCC,” had become increasingly prevalent around Jordan Pond, with blue paint leading directly to the crime scene. Investigators are piecing together the motive behind the shooting and the significance of the messages.

Authorities have yet to release the names of both the victim and the suspect. However, they confirmed that the suspect is known to law enforcement and is set to appear in court soon.
