Couple accused of swindling homeowner out of $650k

MIAMI BEACH, FL – A Miami Beach homeowner has found himself out over $650,000 after hiring contractors who allegedly never completed the promised work. Instead of delivering high-end Italian millwork, the contractors reportedly used the funds to settle personal debts, police said.

The homeowners engaged with Christina Maistrenko and William Richmond, also known as Vladimir Maistrenko, who presented themselves as the proprietors of Elite Home Miami. The business operates from a location on Biscayne Boulevard in North Miami Beach.

The fraudulent activities came to light after the victim realized the substantial wire transfers were not being used for the intended renovations. Meetings had been conducted both at the Elite Home Miami office and the victim’s Miami Beach residence, but the funds were allegedly misappropriated.

According to the investigation, the money was diverted from the business account to cover the Maistrenko’s personal financial obligations, including mortgage defaults and legal fees. The arrest report detailed how these acts amounted to organized fraud, a serious first-degree felony.

Local authorities arrested the duo at the business address. Despite the charges, both suspects were granted bail but are required to hire legal representation, as they do not qualify for a public defender.

The attorney representing the victim believes there may be more individuals affected by similar fraud. He noted that victims often hesitate to come forward due to embarrassment or the fear of losing more money.

The case has raised concerns about the prevalence of such fraudulent schemes in the area. Authorities are urging any additional victims to report their experiences to law enforcement.

The investigation remains ongoing as police work to uncover the full extent of the alleged fraud and identify any additional victims.
