Employee stabbed to death at winery

CHICAGO, IL – A fatal stabbing unraveled on Wednesday night at City Winery, located on Restaurant Row in the West Loop, taking the life of a 47-year-old man. Chicago Police stated that the victim was stabbed multiple times in the chest and back during an altercation with a 41-year-old man at the dining and entertainment venue at about 5 p.m. Reports hint that the suspect and victim were work associates.

Details regarding whether the stabbing occurred indoors or outdoors remain ambiguous, yet the incident resulted in the immediate cancellation of all planned activities, with attendees turned away from the venue.

Two scheduled events that evening had to be canceled: a nonprofit fundraiser and a concert by local artist Danny Boy, or Danny Boy Steward, who was at the venue rehearsing. He expressed his shock, recalling that the victim had wished him a successful show just before the fatal incident. He emphasized the need for discussions on such distressing events occurring in supposedly safe and enjoyable spaces.

Cathleen Himes, a suburban resident who was planning to attend the fundraiser, shared her disturbing experience of seeing numerous police vehicles at the scene and learning about the tragic event.

Details about what sparked the dispute that led to the stabbing and the identity of those involved were not released immediately by the police.

The police confirmed that the suspect has been placed under arrest. Detectives from the Belmont Area continue to investigate the case.
