CITRA, FL – A fatal shooting occurred at North Marion County Middle School in Citra, Florida. The deadly gunfire broke out during an awards program on Wednesday evening, according to the local authorities. Citra is situated about 30 miles to the south of Gainesville.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office released a statement about the incident. In their statement, the authorities indicated that the shooting took place just before 7 p.m.
The devastating gunfire unfolded in the parking lot of the school. An argument escalated between two adult males and turned the parking lot into a scene of violence. This resulted in one man shooting the other.
The injured individual was taken to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries later. The other man suspected to be involved was detained and taken into police custody. The identities of both of the men involved in the violent shooting have yet to be disclosed to the public.
Despite the school’s awards ceremony happening during the outbreak of violence, the police confirmed that no children were harmed in the event. The awards program was promptly cancelled after the incident, noted the sheriff’s office. The local school authorities have yet to comment on the unfortunate occurrence.
