ALLENTOWN, PA – A violent confrontation broke out Sunday evening in a parking lot near 7th and Linden streets, resulting in eight people being injured. Surveillance video from a local business captured the incident, which occurred around 6:40 p.m., showing a group of men embroiled in a dispute.
The argument escalated when a man wearing a tan shirt drew a gun and fired, prompting another man in a black shirt to return fire. The ensuing gunfight caused panic among bystanders, who ducked for cover as the men continued to shoot at each other until police arrived.
A nearby resident, who heard at least 12 gunshots, expressed concern about the safety of the neighborhood, especially given the number of children in the area. Despite the severity of the incident, all eight injured individuals are expected to recover.
The shootout took place just a block away from the Dominican Festival at 7th and Hamilton streets, forcing festival attendees to leave their vehicles in the parking lot overnight while police investigated. The scene was left with shattered windows, bullet holes, and bloodstains, highlighting the violence that had occurred.
Residents of the area are accustomed to the frequent sounds of fireworks, motorcycle backfires, and gunshots, which often occur simultaneously. This latest incident has only added to the community’s anxiety and concern for their safety.
Police have arrested one suspect, who is now facing charges including attempted criminal homicide. Bail has been denied for the individual. The Allentown Police Department has yet to announce whether additional arrests will be made as the investigation is ongoing.
