Teen Girl, Man Dead as Police Probe Two Scenes

Authorities are investigating shootings in Arcadia and Pasadena but have not publicly explained whether the two deaths are connected.

ARCADIA, CA — A teenage girl was found fatally shot inside an Arcadia apartment Thursday after police received a report that a man had fired a gun there, while a man later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a separate scene in nearby Pasadena, authorities said.

The investigation began at an apartment in the 800 block of West Huntington Drive in Arcadia. The Arcadia Police Department said officers responded after receiving a report of a man inside the home who had fired a gun. Police said the man had left before officers arrived.

Officers entered the residence and found a juvenile girl suffering from a gunshot wound, according to police. She died at the scene. Authorities had not released her name Thursday night, and additional information about her age and the circumstances surrounding the shooting was not immediately available.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau is investigating the girl’s death. Authorities had not publicly identified a suspect, announced an arrest or disclosed what may have led to the shooting. Police also had not released information about the relationship, if any, between the girl and the man reported to have been inside the apartment.

A separate police investigation unfolded in Pasadena on Arroyo Parkway near Glenarm Street. Pasadena spokesperson Lisa Derderian said a man died there from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Arcadia police were also involved at that scene, but authorities had not publicly identified the man as of Thursday night.

Witnesses working near the Pasadena scene told ABC7 that they heard a gunshot before seeing officers converge on the area. Michael Amini, manager of Alliance Auto Body Works, said workers looked outside and saw a man lying face down before officers arrived and closed off the area.

Police had not explained why Arcadia officers were involved in the Pasadena investigation or confirmed publicly whether the man who died there was the same person reported to have fled the Arcadia apartment. Authorities also had not announced a motive or described what investigators believe happened before the girl’s shooting.

The two cities are neighboring communities in Los Angeles County, and investigators were processing separate scenes Thursday as they worked to establish the sequence of events. Officials had not released additional evidence showing whether the deaths were connected, leaving that question unresolved as the investigation continued.

The Sheriff’s Department asked anyone with information about the Arcadia shooting to contact its Homicide Bureau. Investigators had released no additional information about the identities of those who died or any confirmed connection between the two scenes as of Thursday night.
