Groom dies the day before his wedding in wrong-way car crash

NEW YORK, NY – A fatal collision in New York on Saturday resulted in the death of a man who was looking forward to his wedding the following day. His cousin also died in the tragic crash caused by another car driving in the wrong direction.

Around 2:21 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, 38-year-old Kirk Walker was behind the wheel of a Dodge Challenger with his cousin, 40-year-old Robert McLaurin. They were driving on the northbound lanes of the Henry Hudson Parkway near West 165th Street when a pickup truck, going the wrong way, slammed head-on into their car, as confirmed by the New York City Police Department.

The crash had fatal consequences for Walker and McLaurin, while an Audi S3, which was also involved in the crash, left its 27-year-old driver and a 28-year-old passenger injured. They managed to transport themselves to the hospital, and they were in stable condition.

The pickup truck driver fled the scene along with his 22-year-old passenger, leaving their vehicle to burst into flames. Currently, the driver remains on the run while the passenger has been apprehended by the police.

Walker, a father of three, was supposed to get married to his fiancée Shauntea Weaver the very next day. In a twist of events, what was meant to be their wedding day turned into a day of mourning as a vigil was held in Bergenfield, NJ.
