ATLANTA, GA – A fatal incident took place at Delta’s TechOps facility at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Tuesday morning. The devastating circumstances resulted in two fatalities and one injury, according to reports about the incident from the company.
Authorities confirmed that one of the deceased victims was a Delta employee, while the other worked as a contractor. The injured victim also worked for the airline. Delta and local authorities are conducting a thorough investigation.
The unfortunate event unfolded at the wheel and brake shop of the airline’s operations facility. One of the tires of a plane reportedly exploded while it was in the process of being changed, killing the Delta employee and contractor.
“The Delta family is heartbroken at the loss of two team members and the injury of another following an incident this morning at the Atlanta Technical Operations Maintenance facility (TOC 3),” read a Delta statement.
Delta’s TechOps facility is responsible for maintenance, repair, and overhaul for the airliner, as stated on its website. The company has pledged full support to the families and colleagues of the victims during this difficult time.
An Atlanta airport public affairs spokesperson noted that airport operations remained unaffected by this incident. Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens also offered condolences to the bereaved families and shared his hope for a full recovery for the injured person.
