Driver dies after crashing into house

MEMPHIS, TN – A woman lost her life and another individual sustained injuries in a car crash that resulted in a vehicle colliding with a house, Memphis Police reported. The incident took place at 8:34 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Jackson Avenue and Dickinson Street.

Authorities indicated that a Nissan Armada was traveling eastbound when it veered over a median, struck a fence at 1629 Jackson Avenue, and then continued forward into a house at 1643 Jackson Avenue.

The driver was taken to Regional One Health, where she succumbed to her injuries. The passenger, meanwhile, was also transported to the same hospital but remains in non-critical condition.

Residents in the area provided vivid descriptions of the aftermath. Ms. Perlie, a nearby resident, described hearing a sound similar to a bomb exploding as the vehicle careened off the road and into the house. She recounted that the vehicle first damaged her fence before slamming into her neighbor’s house, leaving behind a scene of significant destruction.

Another local, Jabari Williams, shared his unease about the dangers posed by high-speed traffic on Jackson Avenue. He noted that he had recently mused about how fortunate he was not to live closer to the street due to safety concerns. Williams found it eerie that his premonition came true when he learned of the crash only hours later.

The incident has brought to light ongoing concerns among residents about traffic safety on Jackson Avenue, which is described by some as a problematic speedway.
