PHILADELPHIA, PA – A ghastly shooting incident on the eve of July 4th claimed the life of a 19-year-old man and injured eight others. Police officials disclosed that the shooting occurred in Southwest Philadelphia, as an unidentified shooter in an SUV opened fire into a crowd on the 1900 block of South Salford Street.
Authorities reported that the shooting started around 11:30 p.m., leaving a 19-year-old dead at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center after sustaining a gunshot wound to the face. A police spokesperson noted that the first responder found a victim with gunshot wounds lying in the middle of the street before multiple officers arrived to manage the situation.
The eight surviving victims, who include younger teenagers, were found in varying states of injury at the scene or at local hospitals. According to reports, all injured parties have achieved stable medical conditions.
The victims included a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl being treated at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. A 14-year-old boy was transferred to the same hospital after an initial assessment at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania’s Cedar Avenue location.
Furthermore, another victim, a 24-year-old male, was treated at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital before being transported to Penn Presbyterian.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Police have not yet released information about suspects in the shooting or a possible motive behind the attack.
