Deadly shooting strikes Michigan State University campus

Michigan State University (MSU) was plunged into chaos Monday night after a lone gunman carried out at least two shootings on campus.

Officials have confirmed at least one fatality as a result of the shooting as well as multiple injuries. The suspected shooter is still at large.

Following the first report of shots fired near Berkey Hall, students and staff were ordered to “secure-in-place” by university police. The second shooting took place at IM East and left several people wounded.

Campus authorities declared IM East secure shortly after 9:30 p.m. local time.

MSU police issued an alert to the campus community, urging them to “Run, Hide, Fight” if they are in danger. “Run” means evacuate away from danger if it can be done safely, “Hide” means to secure-in-place, and “Fight” means protect oneself if there is no other option.

The tragedy at Michigan State University has left the entire community in shock and mourning.

The authorities have asked anyone with information about the shooter or their whereabouts to contact the university police immediately.
