Dad killed in front of his 1-year-old son

Detectives from the Miami-Dade Police Department have apprehended Monico Galban, a man suspected of a horrific act of violence in Homestead. He’s accused of taking the life of a father right in front of his one-year-old son, outside their family home.

Police reports indicate that Galban was apprehended near the intersection of NW 154 Avenue and SW 284 Street.

Authorities have released surveillance footage that unveils the chilling events that took place on May 29th, 2023. The video reveals 27-year-old Jose Guajardo being hit by a barrage of bullets, while his mother and one-year-old son were spending time outside on their front lawn.

The surveillance footage shows a peaceful scene: Guajardo’s son happily filling a kiddie pool under the watchful eyes of his father and grandmother. This tranquility is then shattered by a rapid flurry of gunshots. Guajardo falls to the ground, and in a heartbreaking moment, his young son drops the hose he was holding, running towards his fallen father in fear and confusion.

Amidst the ensuing chaos, the toddler seems to trip over his father. He is swiftly picked up and hurried away from the dangerous scene, while terrified screams ring out in the background.

Police say that Galban approached the scene on foot and was the one who fired the shots at Guajardo.

Injured gravely, Guajardo was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. Despite the relentless efforts of the medical team, he sadly succumbed to his injuries a few days later, according to the police report.

A nearby witness, Henry Carrillo, shared his experience of that tragic day. He described hearing the terrifying sound of gunfire, akin to a machine gun, with an estimated 20 to 30 bullets being fired in two quick bursts, followed by five or six single shots.
