Crash between tanker truck and golf cart leaves one dead

FORT MYERS, FL – A tragic collision between a tanker truck and a golf cart on Winkler Road claimed the life of one man and left two others injured on Saturday morning. The accident occurred just north of College Parkway, a bustling area now under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.

Witnesses described the scene as chaotic and terrifying. John Barker, who was at home when the crash happened, recounted the moment, saying it sounded like a bomb went off. “I turned around and heard screaming. When I ran out, I saw debris everywhere,” Barker said, visibly shaken by the incident.

The crash took place shortly before 11 a.m. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the golf cart, driven by a 44-year-old Fort Myers man, was traveling south on Winkler Road when it collided with the northbound tanker truck. The impact was so severe that the golf cart was pushed off the roadway into the northbound lane, leading to the driver’s immediate death at the scene.

Eyewitnesses were left in shock, with some expressing disbelief at the extent of the damage. “It looked devastating,” one bystander noted, adding that the truck driver appeared to be in a state of shock following the accident.

The passenger in the golf cart and the driver of the tanker truck sustained minor injuries. Residents in the area expressed their concern and sympathy, with many hoping that such an incident never occurs again. “I have no idea how to prevent something like this,” one resident commented. “It’s just heartbreaking.”
