Corvette test drive accident kills dealership employee

ORLANDO, FL – A test drive turned tragic in Orange County on Thursday morning when a Corvette veered off Sand Lake Road, resulting in the death of a 20-year-old dealership employee. The young driver was behind the wheel of the high-performance vehicle when it collided with a Honda Accord attempting a left turn near Beacon Lake Drive.

The crash, which occurred around 10:30 a.m., left the Corvette mangled and overturned in a nearby ditch, ending up against a line of trees. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while his 22-year-old passenger, also an employee of a nearby Volkswagen dealership, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The driver of the Honda Accord remained at the scene and did not require hospitalization.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident, with early reports indicating that excessive speed may have been a factor. A witness at the scene reported that the Corvette was traveling significantly above the 55 mph speed limit just before the accident occurred.

The crash site, littered with debris and marked by crime scene tape, was a stark reminder of the dangers that can accompany high-speed test drives. The road was closed for several hours as investigators worked to piece together the sequence of events leading up to the collision.

Aerial footage captured by drones showed the extent of the damage, with the Corvette’s crumpled frame resting precariously in the tree line. The proximity of the crash to the dealership—less than a mile away—adds a layer of poignancy to the tragedy, as both young men involved were familiar faces to colleagues and customers alike.

The dealership has declined to comment on the incident, citing respect for the privacy of those affected. Meanwhile, the local community is left grappling with the sudden loss of a young life and the serious injuries sustained by another.

As the investigation continues, authorities urge drivers to exercise caution, particularly in high-performance vehicles that can easily exceed speed limits. The crash serves as a sobering reminder of the potential consequences of speed and inexperience on the road.
