HOUSTON, TX – A tragic incident unfolded at a McDonald’s in northwest Harris County last evening, leading to the death of a bystander caught in the crossfire of a dispute between two groups of young people. The victim, identified as 61-year-old Jorge Garcia, was pronounced dead at a local hospital following the altercation that erupted in the fast-food restaurant located on North Fry Road near West Little York.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported that the altercation occurred around 5:30 p.m. when a group of six to seven young individuals, both male and female, was confronted by another group of two to three young men. The confrontation quickly escalated into a physical fight, during which multiple shots were fired, creating a chaotic and frightening scene for other customers, including children, who were present at the time.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez described the incident as senseless and expressed his condolences to Garcia’s family. He noted the rapid and tumultuous nature of the event, which is typical of situations involving gunfire. The sheriff’s office is currently reviewing surveillance footage from multiple angles to piece together the sequence of events and identify those responsible for the shooting.
In addition to Garcia, a 25-year-old man, who was reportedly involved in the altercation, sustained injuries but is expected to recover. The swift nature of the incident resulted in all parties fleeing the scene before law enforcement arrived.
Investigators have since located one of the vehicles believed to be used by the suspects and have identified several individuals who participated in the fight. However, the shooters have not yet been identified, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
