Birthday party shooting leaves one dead, multiple injured

On Friday night, a sudden outburst of gunfire disrupted a Birmingham neighborhood. The incident left one person dead and three others injured.

The shooting took place at about 10:08 pm, marking the city’s third homicide in the week.

Roshode Darnell Davidson, a 36-year-old resident, was identified by Birmingham Police as the casualty in the early hours of Saturday. South Precinct officers were dispatched to the scene following reports of multiple individuals wounded.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman and three men – all adults – in need of immediate medical assistance. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service swiftly transported all victims to UAB Hospital.

Davidson succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival at the hospital, as reported by Officer Truman Fitzgerald. The two other men are currently recovering and are expected to survive. The woman, initially believed to have sustained a gunshot wound, was discovered to have been injured in a different manner. Her condition is stable and she is anticipated to fully recover.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred while a small group was celebrating a birthday party outdoors at a local apartment complex. An unidentified assailant approached the gathering and commenced firing into the crowd.

Detectives at the scene speculate that the assailant discharged at least 20 rounds into the crowd. According to Officer Fitzgerald, the assailant approached on foot without any preceding dispute and began shooting indiscriminately.
