Beauty pageant queen charged with toddler’s murder

AMERICUS, GA – Trinity Poague, an 18-year-old beauty queen from Georgia, has been arrested in relation to the death of a toddler, law enforcement officials have reported.

Currently holding the title of Miss Donalsonville, Poague was apprehended on Friday, according to Sumter County Sheriff’s Office jail records. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was prompted to probe into the toddler’s death by the Georgia Southwestern State University Police Department on the afternoon of January 14.

The child, identified as Jaxton “JD” Williams, was admitted to the emergency department at Phoebe Sumter Hospital in Americus. Despite the hospital staff’s relentless efforts, the child did not survive.

Following a meticulous investigation involving interviews and evidence scrutiny, the GBI agents arrested Poague. Cecilia Smith, a close friend of the toddler’s father, confirmed that the victim was Jaxton “JD” Williams. Smith has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to support the grieving father, Julian “Ja” Williams, who she identified as Poague’s boyfriend and the child’s primary caregiver.

Poague, an alumnus of Southwest Georgia Academy and a student at Georgia Southwestern State University, is currently detained at the Sumter County Jail without bail. She has been charged with aggravated battery, first-degree cruelty to children, and felony murder.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office has stated that the investigation is still in progress. The GBI is appealing to anyone with pertinent information to call 1-800-597-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online.
