LAS VEGAS, NV – A devastating fire engulfed the Riverbend apartment complex Sunday night, leaving one person dead and displacing 19 others. The blaze erupted near Maryland Parkway and Flamingo Road, forcing residents to make desperate attempts to escape.
Dramatic footage captured the harrowing moments as flames blocked exits, trapping residents inside. One video shows a person dangling from a second-story window before jumping into a bush to escape the inferno. Another individual, engulfed in flames, is seen running out of the building before collapsing on the ground.
The fire, which tore through the complex, left behind a charred structure and boarded-up windows. Residents recounted the chaos and fear as they fled for their lives. “I went outside and saw huge flames and smoke everywhere,” said Kayen Halbert, a resident of the complex. “People were trying to run back and get their stuff. It was desperate.”
While on the scene, a distraught woman and her husband approached, searching for their son. “I’m just trying to find my son. He spent every weekend here,” she said tearfully. She had rushed to the complex after learning that her son’s friend had perished in the fire.
The Clark County Fire Department reported that four other individuals were hospitalized with injuries. Residents expressed gratitude for the swift response of the firefighters, who managed to contain the blaze before it spread to other buildings.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the Clark County coroner has yet to release the identity of the deceased. Meanwhile, the Red Cross is assisting nearly 20 displaced residents, providing them with temporary shelter and support.
