Man in police custody dies after plummeting from a hospital window in an escape attempt

On thursday in San Jose, California a man in police custody died after an altercation with an officer and a nurse.

The deceased had been apprehended for a violation of a court order, and had been taken to a medical center for treatment related to a pre-existing condition.

According to the San Jose Police Department, the man is accused of threatening to strike the office and a nurse with a metal oxygen tank.

The officer, along with two hospital security guards, left the room to summon help while the accused attempted to flee by smashing through a window with the oxygen tank.

At that point, in a failed attempt to get away, the man plummeted from the window’s ledge 20 feet, suffering life-threatening injuries that eventually ended his life.

San Jose is approximately 20 miles from downtown San Francisco.
