Three killed in fight between landlord and engaged couple

A disagreement at a rental home ended in three fatalities in Ontario, Canada.

Among the deceased were a young couple, Carissa MacDonald, 27, and Aaron Stone, 28, as well as their 57-year-old landlord. The landlord is suspected of causing the fatal shootings of the couple.

Local authorities in Hamilton are currently examining this chilling double murder case that occurred in the Stoney Creek area. Hamilton Police were called to the property around 5:40 p.m., only to find MacDonald and Stone, the renters of the home, already lost to gunshot wounds.

As per the police report, the couple’s landlord, whose identity has not been disclosed, armed himself with registered firearms and barricaded himself within the home’s confines. Monica Hudon, a representative of Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit, which is now examining the suspect’s demise, explained that authorities attempted to convinced the landlord into peaceful surrender over several hours.

However, the situation took a dire turn when the landlord allegedly opened fire on a police vehicle during phone negotiations. Around 10 p.m., the encounter escalated to a shootout between the landlord and a responding officer, resulting in the landlord’s death at the scene.

The young couple were reportedly engaged to be married. Hamilton Police confirmed their identities following approval from their families.

As per initial investigations, the victims were attempting to escape the residence when they were shot.

According to Detective Sergeant Steve Bereziuk, the disagreement didn’t stem from overdue rent. However, the exact cause of the conflict is yet to be revealed due to ongoing investigations.
