Woman tries to murder her husband over a postcard

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, FL – A local woman is facing serious criminal charges after allegedly attempting to murder her husband. Authorities report that the incident was sparked by a postcard sent by her husband’s ex-girlfriend from six decades ago.

The North Miami Beach Police Department responded to a physical domestic dispute at around 4 p.m. Sunday in a residence located in the 3500 block of NW 169th Street.

Initial investigations revealed that the dispute involved 71-year-old Bertha Yalter and her husband. Their argument was triggered by a postcard that the husband had received from an ex-girlfriend with whom he had been involved 60 years ago. Yalter has been married to her husband for approximately 52 years.

According to the arrest report, Yalter allegedly attempted to kill her husband by smothering him with a pillow. Additionally, she bit him and inflicted physical harm.

Upon medical evaluation, the victim was found to be extremely fragile, showcasing several significant bruises and open wounds on his stomach region and both arms. Furthermore, bleeding bite marks were visible.
A cell phone captured the entire incident, the footage of which was handed over to the North Miami Beach Police Department.

Yalter was subsequently transported to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. She presently faces charges for second-degree attempted murder, aggravated battery on an elderly person aged 65 or older, and victim tampering.
