MILWAUKEE, WI – The remnants of a tragic collision on Meske Street extend across nearly half a city block, a stark reminder of the devastation that occurred. Broken glass litters the area, and a memorial with candles and flowers has been set up by grieving relatives.
The fatal accident happened early Monday morning when a speeding car swerved into the lane of Tia Rosa Perez’s SUV, resulting in a catastrophic collision. Surveillance footage captured the sound of screeching tires and the impact of two SUVs crashing almost head-on at around 5:40 a.m.
Tia Rosa Perez, 38, of Oak Creek, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was alone in her vehicle when it was struck by what Milwaukee police have identified as a stolen Cadillac SUV. The same surveillance camera also recorded two individuals fleeing the scene shortly after the crash. Authorities are still searching for these suspects.
Perez’s husband, who is too heartbroken to speak on camera, expressed his hope that the driver of the stolen vehicle would be brought to justice. He revealed that Perez was on her way to the gym, a routine she followed every weekday morning, when her life was abruptly cut short by an act of reckless driving.
Reckless driving has been a growing concern in the neighborhood they had recently moved from, according to Perez’s husband. Some of their relatives, who still reside nearby, heard the crash and rushed to the scene, only to discover the tragic news and inform him.
Milwaukee police have confirmed that the stolen SUV involved in the crash was taken from the area of Brady Street and Marshall on the east side of the city last Friday. Despite ongoing efforts, no arrests have been made so far.
