ATLANTA, GA – A horrifying incident unfolded early on Aug. 4 on Interstate-20, near Moreland Avenue in Atlanta, where a woman was fatally struck by a car believed to be involved in a street racing event. The Atlanta Police Department and the victim’s family are appealing to the public for assistance to identify the perpetrators who fled the scene.
According to police reports, the emergency services found Shantae Reeves’ lifeless body on the interstate around 1:40 a.m. Investigations have led officers to believe that the 35-year-old woman had been walking along the highway’s shoulder when she was hit by one of the two cars thought to be racing along the Interstate.
The police have limited information about the vehicles involved in the tragic accident, but they suspect that the vehicle that struck Reeves was a Lexus model from years 2001 to 2015.
In a heartfelt plea for justice at a press conference, Della Reeves, Shantae’s mother, tearfully asked for information from anyone who knew about the tragic incident. She emphasized the immense loss the family is dealing with, remembering Shantae as a beloved mother, daughter, and sister.
The Atlanta Police Department is asking that anyone who has information about this devestating incident to contact the Crime Stoppers Atlanta tip line. The family’s plea for justice comes with a cash reward of up to $2,000 for anyone whose provided information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
