Tragedy struck in Ocean County, New Jersey early Saturday morning when a 49-year-old woman lost her life in what authorities are calling an apparent murder-suicide. The incident unfolded in Little Egg Harbor Township, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer and local police were alerted to the scene after a distressed woman placed a 911 call, reporting a possible break-in at her residence. The subsequent investigation revealed a grim sequence of events that ended in the loss of two lives.
Around 5:10 a.m., law enforcement officials arrived at a residence on Whitemarsh Court, following a distress call from a woman who feared for her safety. Upon entering the apartment, officers discovered a woman with a gunshot wound to her face. Tragically, a dog was also found deceased, having suffered from gunshot wounds. The immediate priority was to secure the scene and ensure the safety of any potential survivors.
Further examination of the premises led the police to a 52-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his head. Remarkably, he was still conscious at the time of discovery. The man was promptly transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, but sadly succumbed to his injuries. The initial findings from the shooting investigation indicate that the man shot the woman and the dog before turning the gun on himself, leading authorities to classify the incident as an apparent murder-suicide.
Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, in collaboration with the Little Egg Harbor Township Police Department, are diligently investigating the crime scene. Their efforts aim to uncover any additional details that may shed light on the motive behind this tragic event.
