A 58-year-old man lost his life in a tragic incident at a 7-Eleven store in South Los Angeles on Saturday night. Authorities believe it may have been a freak accident. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. at the intersection of W. Century Boulevard and S. Figueroa Street. A 37-year-old woman who was possibly refueling her car accidentally pressed the gas pedal instead of pressing the brake while in reverse. As a result, her black pickup truck collided with multiple cars, trapping the victim between the driver and a parked vehicle.
Eyewitness Lupita Rosales, who was present at the scene, described the incident as “scary and shocking.” She expressed her sadness, emphasizing that it was a simple mistake that led to such a tragic outcome. Another worker, who was boarding up the damaged storefront, revealed that similar accidents were not uncommon in the area. In the six months that the worker was at the store, they claimed that at least 3 similar incidents have taken place. Jesse Rosales, Lupita Rosales’ father, referred to the crash as a mistake.
The police have classified the incident as a fatal accident rather than a crime. Although the driver was initially taken into custody, it remains unclear whether she has been released. Authorities have not disclosed whether drugs or alcohol were involved. While no charges have been filed yet, they have not ruled out the possibility of future charges. The identity of the deceased man has not been released. Additionally, several other individuals were struck by parked cars during the crash, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities will continue to gather evidence to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
