Mass shooting in Chicago leaves eight women shot, one fatally

In Chicago’s West Side, a mass shooting occurred early Sunday morning. The gunfire left nine female victims wounded, one of whom tragically lost her life. The incident took place in the city’s North Lawndale neighborhood, specifically in the 1500-block of South Keeler Avenue. The Chicago Police Department stated that the shooting victims were attending a gathering when a black Jeep pulled up. Several unidentified individuals emerged from the vehicle brandishing firearms.

The assailants immediately opened fire on the group, targeting the female victims. The victims sustained various injuries, with one woman, aged 21, being shot in the face. She was rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition but sadly succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival. At this time, her identity has not been released. Another victim, a 28-year-old woman, suffered eight gunshot wounds to her torso and was also transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

Additionally, a 33-year-old woman sustained a graze wound to her stomach and was taken to the same hospital in good condition. Another victim suffered a graze wound to her right arm and was also in good condition. Furthermore, a 28-year-old woman was shot in the right knee, a 31-year-old woman was shot in the left leg and forearm, and a 30-year-old woman was shot twice in the right shoulder and twice in the right arm.

All three were taken to Stroger Hospital and reported to be in good condition. Lastly, a 24-year-old woman was shot in the right wrist, and a 20-year-old woman was shot in the right thigh. Both were taken to Stroger Hospital and are in stable condition as well.

As of now, no suspects have been apprehended, and the investigation is being handled by Area Four detectives. The Chicago Police Department is actively working to gather information and identify the individuals responsible for this heinous act of violence.

Reports about the crime scene indicate that there were at least 30 evidence markers that were being used by investigators to piece together the tragic circumstances of the night. In addition, there were ballons and other decorations on the scene. This indicated that the victims were attending a birthday party or a similar celebration at the time of the shooting.
