Wife killed in murder-suicide leaving four kids behind

PLAINFIELD, IL – A tragic incident unfolded in Plainfield early this morning as authorities confirmed the deaths of a married couple, Jennifer and Ryan Hite, in a suspected murder-suicide. The Kendall County Coroner reported that 40-year-old Jennifer Hite, a mother of four, was shot and killed by her husband, Ryan, who then took his own life.

The couple’s argument reportedly escalated into violence just before 6 a.m., according to Joliet police. Neighbors recounted hearing a heated dispute that had been ongoing for about a week, culminating in the sound of gunfire followed by screams. Officers recovered a firearm at the scene.

All four children, aged between three and 16, were home at the time of the incident. While police have not confirmed whether the children witnessed the tragedy, they assured that none were physically harmed. The children are now in the care of extended family members, authorities said.

Joliet Police Chief Bill Evans expressed the profound impact of the incident on the community, describing it as a heartbreaking event for both the family and neighbors. “Our tight-knit community will feel this tragedy deeply,” Evans noted, emphasizing the ongoing support needed for those affected.

The incident has left residents in shock, with many expressing grief and a renewed appreciation for their own families. “It’s rough,” one neighbor shared. “We’re just going to pray for them and hold our loved ones a little tighter.”

As the community grapples with the loss, local services are encouraging anyone facing mental health crises to reach out for support. The national helpline 988 is available for those in need.

The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy. The community is rallying around the children and family members, offering support in this difficult time.
