Amanda O’Keefe, a 37-year-old resident of Hillsborough, has been charged with second-degree murder and death by auto. She allegedly drove under the influence and fatally struck her husband with her car.
After voluntarily turning herself in to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office on March 29, O’Keefe was arrested and held in the Somerset County Jail. She was released the following day, with a court appearance scheduled for a later date.
The incident took place on February 25 when Robert O’Keefe, 41, was hit by a vehicle at his Clark Lane residence in Hillsborough.
According to Prosecutor McDonald, first responders were dispatched to the O’Keefe residence at 2:28 am on February 25 in response to a 911 call. Robert O’Keefe was struck by Amanda O’Keefe’s vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
The Somerset County Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART) and detectives arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation, along with investigators from the New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. Prosecutor McDonald stated that the investigation revealed Amanda O’Keefe’s blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was above the legal limit at the time of the incident.
As the investigation continues, Prosecutor McDonald, Chief Fodor, and Chief McMahon are urging anyone with information related to the case to contact the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.
