Waffle House employee shot to death on the job

LAURINBURG, NC – A Waffle House employee, Burlie Dawson Locklear, 18, was fatally shot in the early hours of Friday in Laurinburg, according to local police. The incident happened at around 12:45 a.m. at the Waffle House establishment on Scotland Crossing Drive, shared Cpt. Chris Young of Laurinburg Police.

Locklear, who sustained gunshot wounds while on duty inside the Waffle House, was immediately transported to Scotland Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The attacker was reported to have entered the establishment and ordered food. While awaiting the preparation of his order, the individual became increasingly agitated and began to verbally abuse the restaurant’s staff, according to Young.

The suspect, still at large, is described as a man attired in a dark blue pullover hoodie, blue jeans, and white shoes. He was driving a dark grey Chevrolet, which was believed to be a model from around 2014.

The Laurinburg Police Department is urgently soliciting information that could lead to the apprehension of the suspect.
