Two teenagers shot and killed

PITCAIRN, PA – In a neighborhood shaken by tragedy, the fatal shooting of two teenage boys in Pitcairn has left the community reeling and demanding change. Residents are calling for action to prevent future violence after the incident occurred in the quiet alleys near Wood Street.

The Allegheny County Police Department is leading the investigation, yet the identities of the victims remain undisclosed pending notification from the medical examiner’s office. Authorities have not confirmed any arrests but believe the shooting to be an isolated event.

Shaheed Carswell, a local advocate for youth safety, expressed his deep concern for the future of the community’s children. “It’s heartbreaking to think this is what the next generation has to look forward to,” he said, urging collective efforts to steer young people away from violence.

Witnesses recounted hearing 10 to 12 gunshots echoing through the area, which is typically bustling with children even during the summer months. The violence has cast a shadow over a place where young people often gather to catch the bus or play outside.

Another resident reported seeing three teenagers flee the scene in a vehicle, leaving behind a fourth, who appeared to be injured, in the alley. The sight of young lives cut short has left the community grappling with grief and anger.

Police Sergeant Todd Duffy confirmed that both victims succumbed to their injuries at local hospitals. He reassured the public, stating, “We don’t believe there’s any ongoing threat to the community.”

The incident has highlighted the lack of constructive activities for youth in the neighborhood, with some turning to gangs as a means of belonging. “They’re playing real-life versions of violent video games,” Carswell lamented, stressing the urgent need for positive community engagement.

As young children gathered near the scene, some asked reporters about the victims’ identities, underscoring the profound impact on local youth. Carswell emphasized the importance of community unity, saying, “Our children need us now more than ever.”

Police are appealing to anyone with information or security footage of the incident to come forward, hoping to bring justice and restore peace to the shaken neighborhood.
