JOLIET, IL – A six-year-old boy is suspected of fatally stabbing his younger brother in an incident in the city of Joliet. Authorities received a 911 call on Friday evening concerning a distressing incident at a home in the 2700 block of Fairway Drive.
The responding officers discovered a two-year-old boy who had suffered multiple stab wounds, apparently inflicted by his six-year-old brother utilizing a kitchen knife. The mortally wounded toddler was immediately transported to a nearby hospital. While he was being treated, he succumbed to his injuries.
The police stated that the mother was present at the time of the incident but was in a different room. The mother made the distress call upon finding her injured young son.
Sergeant Dwayne English, representing the Joliet Police Department, described everyone connected with the incident as a victim. He empathized with the impact this event had on all parties involved, including the responding officers.
Officials informed the Department of Children and Family Services about the incident. In collaboration with the Will County Health Department Screening Assessment Support Services, the department arranged for the six-year-old to be moved to a local hospital for a mental health assessment.
Investigators are currently working to decipher the reasons behind this devastating incident.
