Middle schooler fatally struck by car while walking on grass

DALLAS, TX – On Friday morning, a 14-year-old middle school student lost his life after being hit by a car. Dallas police have confirmed the boy’s death, which took place following a roadside dispute.

The incident transpired around 7:55 a.m. at the intersection of S. Marsalis Avenue and E. Ledbetter Drive. The boy, now identified as Jonathan Ayala, was walking on the grass nearby at the time of the accident. Jonathan was confirmed by the Dallas Independent School District as a student at the Boude Storey Middle School.

The Dallas Police Department’s investigations have unraveled that the vehicle’s driver and 47-year-old passenger, James Grant, were engaged in an argument while the vehicle was in motion. This disagreement escalated into a physical assault initiated by Grant.

Even as the vehicle moved east on Ledbetter, Grant extended across the driver, causing the vehicle to swerve off the road, where it struck Jonathan.

Following the collision, Grant allegedly stole something from the driver before fleeing the scene. The driver remained, deciding to call 911.

Dallas PD officers subsequently apprehended Grant, who is currently being held at the Dallas County North Tower Jail. He has been slapped with charges of violating parole and murder, and his bond is set at $750,000. It has been declared by Dallas police that “he was in the act of committing a felony offense which led to the death of the teen.” The ongoing investigation into the tragic incident continues.
