FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – A drive-by shooting at a park claimed the life of 3-year-old Rylo Yancy, leaving the Fort Lauderdale police in search of the culprit. The devastating incident took place around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday at Riverland Park.
During two distinct 911 calls, women could be heard asking for an ambulance at Riverland Park and mentioning a baby who had just been shot. Upon arriving at the scene, first responders promptly transported the injured Rylo to Broward Health Medical Center, treating his case as a trauma alert. Tragically, Rylo was declared dead at the hospital. The young boy had celebrated his third birthday only in May.
The impact of this heart-wrenching event echoed in the park the following day as leftover party decorations remained scattered around. Residents voiced their anguish over the event that saw a seemingly innocent birthday party turn fatal.
“My heart has been broken…an innocent child, who knows nothing about nothing, he’s out there enjoying the birthday party and then suddenly this happens,” shared Millie Charles, a local resident.
While detectives were able to identify and locate one of the vehicles involved in the drive-by shooting, no arrests have been made so far. The investigation into the incident is advancing, as per police reports.
