Police detained several people for questioning after gunfire erupted Friday in the city’s Old Fourth Ward neighborhood.
ATLANTA, GA — An 18-year-old man died and three other people were wounded Friday in a shooting outside an apartment complex in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward neighborhood, police said.
Atlanta police officers responded at about 5:20 p.m. July 10 to reports of several people shot at 464 Boulevard NE. Officers found four victims: boys ages 16 and 17, the 18-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman.
The four victims were taken to a hospital. The younger teenagers and the woman were listed in stable condition, according to a preliminary statement from the Atlanta Police Department. The 18-year-old died despite efforts to save him.
Police said officers detained several people for questioning as homicide investigators began working to determine what led to the shooting. Authorities had not announced any arrests or criminal charges as of Saturday.
The gunfire occurred outside the Station 464 apartment complex near Boulevard and Angier Avenue NE, according to police and local news reports. Investigators said the 18-year-old made it inside the building before collapsing.
Police described the 23-year-old woman as an innocent bystander who was expected to survive. Authorities have not released the names of the four victims or said whether the three wounded people remained hospitalized Saturday.
Investigators were reviewing surveillance video from the apartment complex. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also responded to help process ballistic evidence, according to an on-scene police briefing reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
Authorities have not identified a motive or explained what happened before the gunfire began. Police also have not said whether the victims knew the people involved or whether the 18-year-old lived at the complex.
The Police Department said the information released Friday night was preliminary and could change as investigators gather evidence. The homicide investigation remained active Saturday, with no suspect publicly identified.
