Teen boys arrested with a firearm inside a mall

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Two juveniles were apprehended at La Palmera Mall on Tuesday, one of whom was found carrying a firearm illegally. The incident unfolded when two off-duty Corpus Christi Police Department officers, who were working security in full uniform, received a tip about the young suspects inside a nearby department store.

Upon leaving the store, both boys resisted as the officers attempted to detain them. During the confrontation, the unarmed juvenile allegedly attacked a security guard. As a result, the 14-year-old boy in possession of the gun now faces charges of unlawful carrying of a weapon and resisting arrest. His companion is charged with assaulting a security guard and resisting arrest.

The firearm was successfully recovered by authorities, and both teens were subsequently transported to the Oasis County Juvenile Justice Center, where they were booked. This incident underscores ongoing concerns about youth involvement in criminal activities and the presence of firearms in public spaces.

Local law enforcement continues to emphasize the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in preventing crime, especially in areas frequented by families and young people. The swift response by the off-duty officers highlights the critical role that security personnel play in maintaining safety in public venues.

The case has sparked discussions about the effectiveness of current measures in place for preventing juvenile crime and the need for additional resources to address such issues. As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with further information to come forward.

While the incident did not result in any injuries, it serves as a reminder of the potential dangers posed by firearms and the necessity for stringent control measures. Community leaders are calling for increased dialogue on how to better protect young individuals from engaging in criminal behavior.
