Suspect caught after attempted assassination of businessman

DETROIT, MI – A suspect in the shooting of a prominent McComb County businessman is set to appear before a judge today. Jason Dillon Tim Barton, 32, faces six felony charges, including assault with intent to murder, following the shooting of Eddie Jawad last Tuesday.

Authorities took several days and coordinated efforts across multiple jurisdictions to apprehend Barton. A key piece of evidence was a stolen vehicle, which police tracked using distinctive clues such as brake dust and bird droppings.

McComb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham outlined the complex investigation, which involved local, state, and federal resources. The process included extensive surveillance and the execution of 23 search warrants, ultimately leading to Barton’s arrest.

The stolen vehicle Barton was driving had a mismatched license plate. Investigators compared this vehicle with another to confirm their suspicions, noting unique characteristics like specific smudges and bird droppings that matched both cars.

Initially, the owner of the Ford Escape, which Barton used, was taken into custody. However, he was later released after authorities determined he had no connection to Barton.

Jawad sustained injuries to his legs in the shooting but is expected to recover fully. Sheriff Wickersham issued a stern warning to potential criminals, emphasizing the county’s resolve and resources to track down offenders.

Barton’s arraignment is scheduled for this afternoon at the 41-A District Court in Sterling Heights.
